Dun-dun-dun!

Surprise surprise, I finally have a regular job (in addition to my few webdesign gigs). I was hired today as a cashier at Value City (more details forthcoming after I attend the first training session tonight). It wasn't my first choice, but it wasn't my last either (two things you don't want me to do - make your food or do your taxes). livinghole, I'll let you know about my schedule once I know what it is.

Our electricity went out this morning around midnight. I woke up at three a.m. and thought, "damn, it's dark." In the country as we are, I found that without the light from my alarm clock, I couldn't see my hand in front of my face (a standard test for determining visual impairment it seems). I was awake for awhile as I listened to my parents bumble around for batteries and a radio (they took my single functioning flashlight, which turned out to be the only functioning flashlight in the house), and eventually conked back out. The power was still not back when I got up, but sunlight took care of the visibility problem. The major issues now were water (septic system and other stuff does not work without electricity, so no flushing of toilets, brushing of teeth, etc.), breakfast (no opening fridge), and no telephones (crazy, isn't it?).

Then the power came back at about nine a.m., too late to save the garage door (which is electric) from getting unplugged so Paul could get the heck out of the garage and get to work.

I will have a longer (and better) update once the weird weather passes and I can turn on our regular computers again ... this laptop keyboard is driving me nuts. I think my nails are too long for this ...
