Southwest does not go from here to there.

One of the reasons I have gone to Katsucon in the past is the cosplay, and though I have only attended twice, I have always worn something. Tonight, I began to pack various items for the trip, and I noticed that I was putting things like makeup and bobby pins into my luggage, despite not having a costume to wear at this stage in the game. I thought and thought and thought, and concluded that it is theoretically possible (if not entirely likely) to complete the High Priestess outfit by Wednesday. That is, alas, my last available time to work with, as I don't like to fuss over unfinished things on the con site. Sunday: cut and pin, Monday: dance class and start sewing, Tuesday: finish dress, Wednesday: finish bow.

I had a feeling of sorts, a suspicion really, that the measurements of this pattern were a bit off, as I've never been a 12/14 in patterns before no matter the company. I blinked and read the package twice, remeasured my butt, and sure enough, by this pattern's standards, I was a mix of 12 and 14. I was pinning things together a minute ago, and as I put the skirt together, I thought, "My waist cannot possibly be that big. It's just not. I think?" But maybe it was? Naw! Couldn't be! I tried it on to prove to myself that I was not going crazy, and sure enough, the skirt is beyond ginormous. It could ... it could ... well, I'm sure you can think of a few things the enormous amount of excess could cover. I smell some additional modifications coming on.

On the upside, damn, I love the way this fabric looks together. I may never really 100% finish things, and a possum could probably beat me in craftsmanship or technique, but I do have an eye for texture! If the purists have a problem with pretty, I'll twhack them with the hotel Bible and make a run for it. I haven't played RO in ages, anyway, so I can always claim a faulty memory.

There I was, randomly clicking through profile links on MySpace as I sometimes do when I am procrastinating like all hell, and I stumbled across an animated gif that caught my eye. Take a look at this photo from Genghis Day 2006, and then compare it with the art on the "subscriber cover" here. Whoa! I think I'm going to have to order the subscriber cover one just to satiate my curiosity.

You know, for some reason, I'm totally tempted to wear my old show choir dress with a wig and call it a costume.
