As I type, I am wishing that I could uninstall Quick Time. I can't uninstall it because some damn program which uses it (probably aol) is running. Even if I did uninstall it, I'm probably just going to have to download it again, but the return of my Midi Issue is making me very cranky, so any program that rubs the wrong way (as QuickTime does telling me to upgrade for a mere 30 bucks) risks getting tossed. So the hell what if aol can't find the files it needs to play whatever and I have to reinstall aol for that to work just because I uninstalled RealPlayer. Dammit, it was bugging the hell out of me with the flashing on my toolbar crap. -_-

So I find a page on the Internet with some midis. I click on the links, which takes me to a page where QuickTime or something starts up and plays 'em. I like the midis. I download them. And lo and behold, what's this? They don't play in Winamp, Windows Media Player, or anything else. So now I'm even more irritated because I probably didn't have to get rid of those midis I loved (they're long gone now). Something is screwing things up, and I don't know what it is. I want to erase everything. -_-;
Current Mood: angryangry
Current Music: I WOULD be listening to a midi right now, but noooo ...

Quicktime on Win32 is absolute crap. I refuse to install it and RealPlayer, because they're both HORRIBLE applications. I won't install Windows Media Player 7+, because that program is also awful. I'm sticking with WMP 6.4, and I refuse to update it.

You should be able to play MIDI files in Winamp, provided you actually have the in_midi.dll plugin installed for Winamp.

And how do I determine that? o_O

All I know is that once upon a time, Winamp did play them. Suddenly nothing played them. ^^;

Options -> Preferences.
Under the Plugins thing in the tree view, select "Input"
You should see something like Nullsoft MIDI something or other.

Well, I do see an area where I can select or deselec the "associated extensions." midi, like everything else, has been selected.

Re: Should be here

Winamp2 MIDI plugin v2.63b [IN_MIDI.DLL]

... is in that list of things ... so I should be able to play them, right? Well, let me rephrase that ... I think Winamp thinks that it's playing them, because the little bar scrolls over and the minutes count away, but there's no sound. Not a single midi can be heard.

Re: Should be here
Double-click on the speaker icon in your systray, and check the volume on your "Synth." It may be called "MIDI Synth," "FM Synth," or "SW Synth" or something similar.

Re: Should be here
I think my computer is dying. lol

New problem! When I have the "Synthesizer" selected, mp3s are now what my midis were. ^_^; I guess I can't have both on the same list. o_o

Re: Should be here
Try tweaking your "Wave" volume. It should be the second slider on the volume control thingy:

Ack! I HATE Realplayer. It's as bad as XP when it comes to having to disable everything, like that stupid StartCenter. I hate WiMP too >.<, but I need it and Realplayer for some anime I download. Bah.

*waves* I'm invading your LJ too, Sakaki! ^_^
